The Innocence Project, founded in 1992 at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, is a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. DNA testing has exonerated 353 people nationwide, including 20 who were sentenced to death. The Innocence Project was directly involved in more than 180 of these cases. We work with lawmakers and leaders in law enforcement to identify and respond to inadequate policies and unreliable practices that lead to wrongful convictions. Each exoneration and policy achievement brings enhanced accountability and justice to the United States criminal justice system.
