Maddy deLone joined the Innocence Project as Executive Director in 2004. During her tenure, the IP has helped free over 200 people and passed over 250 laws. The IP has also grown from a staff of eleven and a budget of $1.5 million to a staff of over 80 and a budget of almost $19 million. First launched as a legal clinic in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, the Innocence Project’s mission is to free the innocent and bring substantive reforms to the system responsible for their unjust imprisonment.
